HAFLA TIME
As well as our weekly classes, the Sahara Sisters also put on an annual show (a Hafla, to give it its proper Arabic name) each autumn. This gives us the opportunity to showcase what we’ve been working on in class, and is a wonderful chance to get dressed up in some amazing performance outfits (the more glitter, sequins and sparkles, the better!). We are regularly invited to perform at other local groups’ Haflas, as well as at community and fundraising events, such as WI groups, care homes, charity and school fetes. You may even have seen us as part of the Christmas Lights Switch-On or the Summer Carnival over the years. We love any excuse to don a sparkly coin belt and share our dancing!

Here’s just a taste of the Sahara Sisters and our involvement in community events.
We regularly visit care homes and retirement homes in the area to perform some dances for them, and get the residents dancing along within their own capabilities with some basic moves. We also give a talk on the history and evolution of bellydance and its costumes, dispelling myths and challenging misconceptions of this ancient style of dance.

Our motto is ‘Sahara Sisters do it with a wiggle and a giggle.’ If you’d like to join us and get the bellydance bug too, or just want to find out more, don’t hesitate to get in touch. We look forward to welcoming you at class soon!
